MISSISSIPPI
CHOICES - Statewide Career Information System
Mississippi Choices™is a comprehensive software program, which engages high school students (Grades 9 - 12) in a process that heightens their self-awareness, helps them set priorities, and helps them develop career decision-making skills. Up-to-date information about hundreds of occupations, including military occupations, thousands of colleges, trade and technical schools, graduate school programs, and comprehensive financial aid information, gives students the chance to compare options and make better decisions. In addition to national information, Mississippi Choices™ contains information about future outlook and salaries of occupations in Mississippi, as well as education data about Mississippi institutions. Some topics covered in the Choices occupations include the amount of education required, earnings, preferred work sites, physical demands, temperaments, interests, future outlook, aptitudes, and Holland Codes (a category divided into six personality types). Choices CT (for career transitions) helps adults who are facing career decisions or making a career transition to relate their skills, interests, and work priorities to career options. An inventory of past work experience and the development of a career plan can lead to a list of suggested additional occupations related to transferable skills. Career and education options can further be identified. Choices and/or Choices CT systems are available to all high schools, community colleges, and Mississippi’s Employment Service Offices. The Choices CT process empowers adults to develop a career plan that meets current needs and identifies suitable career and education options. Career Futures (for Grades 6 to 8) introduces self-awareness and career exploration concepts to youth. The program includes a career area interest checklist, current information on over 650 occupations, and an on-line planner. This system is available to all middle/junior high schools in the state. Choices CT is available through a statewide license to all high schools, community colleges, and Workforce Investment Network (WIN) Job Centers.
